After receiving a voicemail in early 2018 from one of our loyal listeners asking the question “why don’t they just become citizens?” Executive Producer Brian Eklund felt it that KGEZ was in an excellent position to educate folks on the current immigration policies in the United States and those included in a group called “DREAMers”… or those affected by the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act. Brian reached out to his friends on Facebook and discovered that someone whom he'd been friends with for years was actually a DREAMer. He'd always viewed Jonathan as just another hard-working, upstanding, smart young person that had a lot in common with other Flathead valley residents, not even realizing how very different his life was from his neighbors.
Community member Jonathan Perez appeared on the KGEZ Good Morning Show in 2018 and 2019, and again on February 24, 2020 to give us an update on what’s changed … and what hasn’t changed in his life with regard to his quest for citizenship.
